A section of social media users from Nyamira County have ridiculed Governor John Nyagarama for using a term that allegedly demeans the strength of women in society.
Nyagarama is no stranger to comedy and just over one month ago during ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s tour of the county made the infamous ‘monto momoja’ statement - loosely translated to ‘mtu mmoja’ - which also subjected him to social media ridicule.
And on Sunday during a funeral at Ekerenyo, Nyagarama reportedly used the term 'KCC' (Kenya Cooperative Creameries) to refer to women breasts while urging them to go for regular breast cancer checkups.
“The statement was absolutely unbecoming because it makes women look like abnormal creatures. Sometimes it is not proper to use provocative imagery just to demean women and the Governor owes us an apology,” said Peris Mong’ina in a Nyamira WhatsApp group.
“He was making a good point but using a wrong term. The 'KCC' term sometimes is used to refer to women with big breasts and that is why we need him to withdraw the remark. As Nyamira women, we feel undermined by the Governor,” added Gladys Mokua.
However, Nyagarama’s Personal Assistant Kepha Mocheche defended his boss saying he used imagery to avoid ‘embarrassing’ women in public.
“In Gusii, there are some body parts that when you mention them directly, it sounds weird and embarrassing. The Governor was only driving the point home,” he said.
