Needy performing students from Nyaronge village have been given a new lease of life after area residents initiated a project that will see area residents contribute at least five hundred shillings to support the kitty.
Speaking on Monday at the village after the launching of the kitty that aims at supporting over two hundred students in institutions of higher learning, speaker after speaker praised the initiative and vowed to support it.
According to them, the initiative will further extend to students in secondary schools in few years’ time besides forming a Sacco out of it.
“This is a great day in our society. Education is essential and we have come up with an initiative that will see needy students getting support from members of the community,” said Daniel Onsomu.
“Contributing 500kshs per month will be our main objective and we are targeting over 200 households from this region. We want to support higher education as before extending the same to secondary schools perhaps in two or three years’ time,” added Mr. Julius Tendeka.
Mr. Tendeka said the community will meet soon to choose leaders who will spearhead the agenda besides urging well-wishers to support the initiative.
“We have to plan a day and elect officials who will come up with the group’s constitution. It is a good thing and I invite well-wishers to join in promoting education,” he said.
End.
