Nyaguta residents from Nyamira have asked the county government of Nyamira to consider deploying medical doctors to a rural dispensary, which is apparently opened for a single day in a week.
Residents today faulted the county government for remaining silent over the issue despite being aware of it.
They blamed the area MCA Ken Atuti for failing to articulate their grievances at the county level.
According to them, Nyaiguta dispensary, which was build courtesy of Kitutu Masaba CDF do not have permanent doctors or nurses and instead, residents have been depending on a doctor sent from Gesima Hospital on Thursdays.
The residents said they are dissatisfied with the arrangement saying it was time wasting since the doctor has not been showing up in most occasions.
“We are really suffering and our mothers and children cannot be attended to during emergencies. In fact, we have had cases where some people have succumbed to illness due to inability to access health services in time,” said James Tai.
Nyanduko Omache, a resident said they want the county government to take full responsibility and deploy at least two medical officers on a permanent basis to work at the dispensary.
However, Gesima MCA said that programs were in place to send medical officers by mid-May and appealed to residents to remain calm.
“I fully understand their predicaments and I have put efforts to ensure by mid-May all is well. Let them just wait till that time before they complain,” he said.
