Hundreds of residents from Nyamotenenio village in Nyamira County have called upon the provincial administration to crack a whip on errand illicit brewers who have literally contributed to laziness of their children.

Speaking during a meeting convened in the village to discuss the rising numbers of youths who have allegedly ventured into taking the illicit liquor, speaker after speaker condemned illicit brewers and urged the government to apprehend those involved.

According to them, youths have been lured into the business with the brewers using them as cheap labor to accomplish their mission.

“Our children have completely lost hope in life by working for the illicit brewers. They are paid in form of three to four cups of the liquor and this makes them spend most of their time in the changa’a dens. The government through the local administration should come out clear and crack a whip on brewers,” said Moses Ombati.

They accused Gesima Police of colluding with brewers by persistently taking bribes in a bid to protect the crime.

“We are aware that most of them have collaborated with police officers by bribing them for protection. If this habit persists, then I am seeing a situation where our male children get lost and extinct,” added Clare Kwamboka.

Riamoni chief Francis Rasugu accused residents of condemning the crime by constantly tipping offenders whenever his team is ready to apprehend brewers.
