Nyamira County residents have asked Ministry of Lands to expedite the process of issuing land title deeds.
Led by Gesima Ward MCA Ken Atuti who was speaking at Gesima Catholic on Sunday, they accused Ministry of Lands officials of grand corruption and discrimination when issuing title deeds.
“Title deed is a right to any Kenyan owning land, we are tired of the slow process by land officials in our county and we are demanding that the lands Cabinet Secretary intervenes to solve the matter before it escalates,” said MCA Atuti.
MCA Atuti said that many people have been commuting to and from Nyamira in search of that vital document unfortunately, they are being kept waiting for long by errand land officials who at times ask for bribes,” alleged the MCA.
Erick Ochogo who has been following his title deed since 2013 said he had lost faith in the county officials and asked relevant authorities to help him acquire his document.
“I am a victim of that bureaucracy we have been subjected to. I am appealing to the government to chip in and rescue us from this dilemma,” pleaded Ochogo.
MCA Atuti raised alarm by saying that if the government does not intervene urgently, many people risks losing land to land grabbers through unscrupulous means.
“Most of them are using title deeds that were used by their parents which is absolutely risky. This makes them easy preys to land grabbers and that is why we are calling for CS Charity Ngilu to intervene before things go out of hand,” added Atuti.
