Residents in Nyamira County have been warned against condoning female genital mutilation (FGM).
Addressing residents during a sensitisation campaign against FGM in Nyamira town, the Kenya Anti-female Mutilation Board chairperson Linah Jebii Kilimo said anyone who will be found engaging in the vice will be jailed for two years.
"It is against the constitution of Kenya for girls to be circumcised and whoever will be found engaging in such activities will be given a two year jail term," she said on Thursday.
"We condemn FGM because it affects pregnant women during child birth," added Kilimo.
