A section of residents from Rimanoti village in Nyamira county now want the county commissioner Josehine Onwong’a to intervene and arrest a number of youths said to have been recruited to join criminal groups.

Speaking on Wednesday during a crisis meeting in which four parents lamented that they could not account for their sons who allegedly disappeared from their respective homes a month ago, they urged the government to execute a crackdown and help trace the children and arrest them so they can give information about a deadly gang operating in Borabu region.

According to them, the provincial administration had failed to bring members of the deadly criminal groups in the region to book.

“We can’t run away from it and its time to ask the county commissioner to help us trace four of our sons who we fear have joined some deadly criminal groups around. It’s a month since their parents reported and our efforts to work with chiefs and their assistants haven’t been fruitful,” said John Makori on behalf of the disgruntled residents.

They said if the government relaxed on the matter, many youths from the region were likely to be recruited and end up joining more perilous groups like the Al Shabaab and cause menace in the country.

“Immediate intervention is important. We are not saying they have joined Al Shabaab but the recruitment must be handled and those responsible apprehended otherwise they may end up joining deadly terror groups,” he added.

Area MCA Mr Jackson Mogusu lauded the parents for alerting the authorities and joined them in calling for intervention from the government.

“It’s good when your son disappears you report and this is an important step. I will speak to the commissioner to help us trace the fours (names concealed till investigations about their whereabouts are done) and take a decisive action on those responsible for recruitment. We are tired with the increasing incidents of insecurity,” he said.
