Matiero primary school in Nyamira County has planted over 3,000 trees, as part of the programme that was launched by Environment CS Keriako Tobiko.
According to the school head teacher John Mogeni, they arrived at the decision to educate residents on the need to plant more trees and conserve the living environment.
“Each pupil in the school had a chance to plant trees. We are committed to ensure the learning environment in the school is calm with fresh air at all times," he said.
He challenged parents and pupils to make use of April vocation to engage in forestation programmes across the region.
“We expect over the 500 pupils who are on long April holiday will help their parents to plant trees at their farms to improve the beauty and shape of the environment,” he added.
He lauded Nyamira County and national governments for the commitment to conserve the environment and protect the forest covers.
