Speaking in Nyamira on Monday, Peter Ogeto who is a public health officer from the Division gave Riooga Secondary School two weeks to build descent latrines.

Officer Ogeto said lack of the facility posed a great health challenge to students saying that the situation can cause outbreak of diseases.

“We have given the school 14 days to have new latrines to replace the ones that sunk to avoid any possible outbreak of diseases, failure to which we will close the school,” said the health officer.

The school’s Principal Job Nyaanga appealed to the Nyamira County, area leadership and well-wishers to intervene and help them reconstruct the facility.

Principal Nyaanga said the latrines sunk because they were built on a poor soil.

“I ask our Governor John Nyagarama and the area MP to intervene and salvage the situation,” appealed the Principal.

The school is at the moment sharing latrines with a ‘sister’ primary school.
