Nyamira based Dr Joy Kerubo Foundation is set to distribute a number of library books to all primary schools in Nyamira County after a week-long exercise of issuing revision materials.

The Foundation, which is pioneered by a US based doctor, Dr Joy Kerubo, is said to have partnered with Kisii community in the US to promote education standards in the region.

The Foundation’s coordinator Kefa Osiri confirmed on Sunday at Gesima that at least 50 schools from the county will receive a number of books in a program aimed at equipping libraries in primary schools.

“We have carried out a study on the condition of libraries in our primary schools and it is unfortunate that many of our schools do not have libraries. Our foundation has already partnered with Kenyans living in the US (most of them from Nyamira) to improve the quality of education by equipping our libraries,” Mr Osiri said.

According to him, the exercise which will kick off on Monday, will target schools from Kitutu Masaba before stretching out to the remaining three constituencies.

“We already have books that have been purchased from Text Book Center in Nairobi and some are being shipped in from abroad. Kitutu Masaba will be the first to receive them before we stretch to West Mugirango, Borabu and North Mugirango,” he added.

Mr Osiri said the foundation had obtained a list of the neediest schools from the Ministry of Education in the county ahead of the distribution exercise.
