Students from Nyakongo high school in Kitutu Masaba will have reasons to smile after benefiting from computers from area senator as part of his campaign to have all schools equipped with modern machines.
Senator Mong’are Kennedy, through area MCA Ken Nyameino, on Wednesday donated 15 computers as part of his broader plan to have all schools equipped with computer laboratories.
According to the MCA, the senator has already hired a computer-literate teacher who will be mandated to teach students computer basics.
He said the programme will be conducted in several schools from the region and is expected to take a period of at least two years.
“I am very happy to represent the senator here. These computers are part of his initiative to have students from this region equipped with basic computer skills. He has directed a computer-literate teacher to tutor students in this school,” Nyameino said.
“Being a broader plan, it is my expectation that by 2017, according to his plan, most schools would have benefited from the scheme,” he added.
Mr Nyameino urged elected leaders to back the senator as a way of promoting education sector in the region that has in the past criticized due to dismal performances in area institutions.
“The senator cannot be able to do it alone and that is why as elected leaders we have to support him. It is a collective responsibility,” he said.
