The recent announcement by Nyamira Senator Mong’are Okong’o that he will seek re-election on a Jubilee ticket in the 2017 polls has been termed as backward and primitive by former Kitutu Masaba MP Abuya Abuya.

Mr Okong’o who was elected on a Ford Kenya ticket, announced the decision last week during a fundraiser in Borabu constituency.

And now Mr Abuya, a former member of the Seven Bearded Sisters, accused the Senator of being myopic and predicted his downfall in the 2017 polls.

"I was clearly shocked to hear him (Mong’are) saying that he has moved to Jubilee. That must be his blow because the move is backward and primitive,” he said.

“The Cord coalition’s popularity in Nyamira is still higher than that of Jubilee, and that means most people voting along party affiliations will vote for a candidate allied to the coalition. He is so myopic to make his own political grave and time shall tell,” he added.

However, Mr Mong’are through a phone conversation, dismissed Abuya’s sentiments and insisted that he made the right decision for the benefit of Nyamira people.

“I have been in politics for a while and I think it’s honest for me to say that he is entitled to his views. I did wide consultations and I am confident that I will win 2017 polls on a Jubilee ticket. Let them wait for 2017 and those criticising me should be ready for a tough political contest,” he said.
