Nyamira Senator Okong'o Mong'are has condemned the rising road accidents in the country.

During a phone interview on Tuesday, Mong'are said the rise in road accidents being witnessed in the country have caused deaths of innocent Kenyans, a menace he noted should be declared a national disaster.

"In the recent past all we get over the news is all about fatal road accidents on our roads a mess that has cost the lives of a number of innocent Kenyans and now it is high time this mess is declared a national disaster," said Mong'are. 

He further recommended a raft of changes in his Traffic (amendment) Bill including on spot corporal punishment for traffic offenders.

"I will soon be presenting a raft changes in the Senate on the Traffic Bill because those people causing deaths of innocent Kenyans should be punished," he added.
