Moments after Education cabinet secretary Fred Matingi lifted an order issued to Kisii University to close 10 of its satellite campuses in 90 days’ time, two leaders from Nyamira have welcomed the decision.
Dr Matiang’i held a closed door meeting between the university’s management and Commission of University Education on Wednesday morning before arriving a common decision that the institution to be given 12 months to improve its facilities under supervision of a special committee from the commission failure to which the campuses will be closed.
Speaking on phone, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Mong’are hailed the decision as ‘heroic’ and urged the university to comply with the agreement.
“I want to thank CS Matiang’i for the heroic decision and challenge the university’s management to work with the special committee to improve the facilities. I had also asked for the same duration recently and I am happy at last it has been adopted. We all want quality education but someone cannot issue closure orders without involving all stakeholders,” he said.
Mr. Timothy Bosire of Kitutu Masaba on his part said he will work with the institution which has one of its branches in Keroka to ensure it complies with the requirements in a year’s time.
“Extension to one year from the 90 days is very critical. I want to thank the education CS for his wisdom. We want as leaders to support the institution comply with the facilities and other regulations because the campuses are important in ensuring accessibility of education,” he said.
