Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong'are has condemned Education CS Fred Matiang'i over the new exams rules which seek to curb leakages terming them as 'child abuse'.
This comes just days after the CS issued the new directives to students including a ban on carrying geometrical sets and clipboards to examination rooms.
And now Mong'are says the rules will cause depression among students thus impacting negatively on their results.
"These rules are but child abuse and a tactic to make our students fail their exams by causing depression through denying them clipboards," said Okong'o.
The Senator also wondered how Matiang'i expects learners who don't have desks to write their exams.
"I usually wonder where Matiang'i lives, he doesn't behave as if he lives in Kenya. He thinks this is America. Some our schools lack desks and here he comes to tell students not to use clipboards, where will they place their papers, on the ground? posed Mong'are.
As a member of the Senate Committee on Education, he said he has visited most counties including Mandera, Wajir, Tana River and Lamu where students lack classrooms and desks.
He has now given President Uhuru until Monday to scrap the new directives before the exams commence on Tuesday.
"I want the President to reverse the directives if the Jubilee government cares for our students before the exams commence on Tuesday," said he.
He made the remarks on Friday in Kitutu Masaba when he opened a library in Rigoma ward.
