Children from different orphanages and children centres from Nyamira County have a reason to smile after area Senator promised to pay school fees for those who excel in their exams.
Senator Mong’are Okong’o who was touring Magura Orphanage centre in Borabu constituency said he was ready to support performing needy students from the region as part of his community service activities in the county.
He said many orphans and children from vulnerable backgrounds opted to drop out of schools due to difficulties they face in their upbringing.
“I am aware that some children have dropped out of schools because they lack school fees and the respective children centres are unable to carter for them. As an encouragement, I will support performing children to various secondary schools and even those who excel in KCSE,” he said.
He urged management of children centres and orphanages to report serious cases to area leadership for urgent help since many cases are said to have gone unreported.
“Sometimes it is difficult for us leaders to know exactly what happens in such centres. It’s upon the management to remind us and expose needy cases. Every child has a right to education and we ought to respect that as leaders,” he added.
Mong’are took on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government over what he called slow projects in opposition perceived areas.
“There is no problem being in opposition in an advanced democracy like Kenya. I am worried that our region is given a raw deal in terms of projects especially infrastructure and the president has to address that,” Mong’are said.
