Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong’are Okong’o has said the re-introduction of school ranking will help promote performance.
Speaking to this writer on the phone on Thursday, Mong’are said the rankings will help Kenyans to know how schools perform.
His remarks come after President Uhuru Kenyatta signed into law a bill that will see schools ranked in national examinations.
"Ranking of schools will help our schools to compete effectively, that is why even universities are being ranked in the world so that the best is being identified,” Mong’are added.
Ranking of schools was banned by former Education minister Jacob Kaimenyi in 2014 in what he said was part of the measures to curb cut-throat competition among institutions.
He challenged the government to always involve all stakeholders whenever they set regulations in schools.
"I call upon the Government to incorporate stakeholders whenever they set changes in the ministry of education to enhance good partnership with them, “he said.
Mong’are also challenged church based sponsored schools to make sure that they strengthen their measures in governance both academically and spiritually,” he said.
“It is the mandate of schools sponsored to make sure that there is good governance so that we can enhance good performance," Mong'are said.
