Led by Nyakongo High School Head girl Vivian Momanyi at Gesima market on Thursday, the group said the movement, labeled ‘Okoa Girls Initiative’, was started to sensitize girls on how to live without exposing themselves to dangers such as early pregnancy.

“We started this movement as girls to ensure we live without exposing ourselves to early pregnancies and STDs. Many of our colleagues have succumbed before but we are determined to reduce such cases substantially,” she said.

According to Vivian, many girls shy off from discussing issues pertaining to sex, but ends up moving with mature men hence resulting to rampant cases of abortion and teen pregnancies.

‘Let us not run away from the menace. It is there with us and that is why we decided to come together and teach ourselves on how to handle such problems,” she added.

Momanyi further notes that the movement will be moving around to all secondary schools in the county to spread the good-will message.

“We will be embarking on journeys across Nyamira to preach the same to over colleagues at least to combat to some extent these issues of early pregnancies,” she said.

She urged the area political leadership to support such initiatives for the good of the entire county.
