Traders in Nyamira town have vowed to join hands to raise funds for the purchase a fire engine.
According to the traders, the Nyamira county government has been promising to buy a fire engine for a while now to fight fires, a promise that is yet to come to fruition.
Addressing the press in Nyamira town on Wednesday, the traders, led by John Makori condemned the Sunday incident in which a majority lost their property when fire razed their kiosks.
On Sunday, traders in Nyamira town plying their trade along the Assembly road are counting losses after a fire razed their kiosks.
The fire which is said to have started at around 3am (Sunday), consumed over 20 shops among them M-Pesa shops, groceries, cereals and several mama mboga kiosks.
He blamed the loss on the lack of fire fighting equipment.
“We have the county but is not helping us. We have lost a lot of our properties through fires , the county has no equipment that can fight fire outbreaks,” added Makori.
“We have agreed as traders to raise funds to buy a fire engine of our own because the county has not shown interest in acquiring one,” said Ezron Mose.
They accused the county of not coming to their aid. They appealed to the county administration to give them funds to restart their businesses again.
