Intrigues between the County Government of Nyamira and a section of leaders from the region over the proposed construction of the first public university in the county persisted.
Under the proposal, the institution will be built at Kiabonyoru in West Mugirango constituency with some leaders proposing Nyaronge region which is between Borabu and Kitutu Masaba constituency.
On Sunday, a section of leaders led by the former councilor Julias Nyachieo and Chepilat MCA Alfayo Mwongeresa vowed to compel the county leadership to change its decision even as Governor John Nyagarama is reported to have met Prof Richard Mibei of Moi University on Friday to strategize.
“We are not going to allow this continuous dictatorship by the leadership. They must agree that development should be done without discrimination and apparently, our region has been discriminated,” Nyachieo said.
“It is a shame that we can have over 10Hacters of land at Nyaronge and they decide to squeeze and institution to an area where we do not have room for expansion,” Mwongeresa added.
However, speaking at a different function in Gesima County Chief Health officer Mr. Douglas Bosire asked leaders to desist from politicizing the issue.
“The issue here is about having a public university in the county and not where is should be located. Let us remember that the institution can open satellite campuses elsewhere and therefore, let’s desist from politicizing the issue,” he said.
