Leadership of 2 youth groups from Nyamira county are embroiled in a tussle over management of youth affairs in the region threatening integration and projects that have already been initiated by the respective youth groups.
The Gusii Youth Alliance chairman Mr. Onguso Ochengo on Wednesday accused their rival group Nyamira Youth Council for allegedly trying to hijack agendas of the youths by masquerading as the de-facto group mandated to present the grievances of youths to authorities.
“I want to caution the youths against attending a meeting by NYC. They are goons on hire from the county government and they are used by the governor to block quest for good administration. Only GYA can speak and organize events on behalf of youths from this region,” he said.
However, his sentiments were criticized by the NYC chairman Mr. Nyambega Gisesa who accused their rivals of soliciting favors from Kisii and upon the county governments’ failure, hampering development by inciting youths.
“We are not hijacking agendas of any group because the GYA has no agenda for youths. Our December meeting at Nyamaiya stadium remains intact and we are not ready to tolerate individuals who are out to solicit favors from the county governments of Kisii and Nyamira and sabotage development whenever their requests are declined,” said Mr. Gisesa on phone from the Republic of Ireland where he was attending a meeting.
