Nyamira governor John Nyagarama’s leadership has come under severe criticism from a section of youths from Borabu constituency over alleged corruption claims.
On Tuesday youths selected from various Wards in the constituency gathered at Dam side Hotel, accusing the county boss over “opaque and discriminatory” leadership.
The group spokesperson Richard Nyang’ena claimed there is massive corruption in the county further alleging that Nyamira leadership is prefers working with people from certain clans while those perceived as political rivals are discriminated.
“We can prove that the county is employing people from certain clans while discriminating clans perceived to be ‘politically hostile’. Some of us have masters and degrees and whenever we apply for jobs we are not considered,” said Nyang’ena.
“We have been taken for granted for quite some time now and this is the time to speak out. As youths from this area, we have skills in different professions and we should utilise our skills and knowledge to develop this region,” said Nyangeana.
They threatened to call mass actions across the constituency to oppose Nyagarama’s leadership.
“We have a remedy to this dictatorial leadership. We are soon calling for peaceful demonstrations in the constituency to air our grievances,” said Nyangeana.
However, speaking in Chepilat Township, area MCA Alfayo Mongereza said he supported the plight of those youths but requested them to call for dialogue with county leadership instead of planning to demonstrate.
