Leadership wrangles in Nyamira County between Governor John Nyagarama and senator Mong’are Bw’okongo may take a different twist, after a section of youths from Bosamaro Ward raised concern about the senator.
Speaking on Monday at Mariba village, Mariba Youth Group accused the senator of derailing development in the area, even after several calls by area leaders asking the duo to unite.
Led by their group chairperson Kevin Ochari, the youths were unanimous that the senator resigns honourably, to pave way for development.
“There have been several attempts to persuade the senator to work with his county government. He has chosen to ignore the calls and that is why we want him to resign,” he said.
“We all know how the senate is very critical under the new constitution. That is why we won’t allow the intrigues to persist. Our governor has sometimes back invited the senator for talks but he has always turned down the offer,” added Ochari.
They threatened to call for mass action in West Mugirango Constituency to raise dissatisfaction over Mong’are, whom the declared incompetent.
“We are ready to Marshall Youths from this region to hold peaceful demonstrations against the senator”, he said.
Intrigues between the county leadership and senator Okongo emerged when the latter accused the former of grand corruption and fraud in tendering.
