Ten youths from Borabu constituency have a reason to smile after Chepilat MCA volunteered to pay their school fee at St Ann’s College in Kisii town.
Speaking on Monday evening during handing in of a cheque worth Sh40,000, Alfayo Mwongeresa said the move was necessitated by the ever dynamic technology in the world which requires people to be conversant with it.
He said the move targeted form four leavers who completed school last year, something that will equip them with computer skills before they join institutions of higher learning.
Mwongeresa said he will continue helping such students annually as a way of making youths from his area of representation conversant with the new digital era.
“We are all aware that technology is dynamic and that is why I thought it was necessary to support these brilliant young people. I will be doing it annually and I promise it will be based on an individual’s merit,” he said.
“My target is those who finished form four soon because they would have learnt skills that will be relevant for them when they join college," he added.
He asked the county government of Nyamira to equip area institutions with computer labs and computers in bid to increase number of computer literate form for leavers.
“The county government should equip our institutions with computers. This will help us have more computer literate students,” said the politician.
