A section of youths from Nyamira County now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to visit the region and initiate serious development programs.
Speaking today at Magombo region in Kitutu Masaba during a meeting organized by local leadership, they were unanimous that the president visits the area to oversee development besides identifying sectors that needs urgent attention.
“I don’t recall the last time the President Uhuru came to this region. We only saw him bypassing the region but making one stop over at Nyansiongo which is far away from county headquarters. He has been only visiting Kisii County”, said Mr. Kepha Momaima, a youth leader.
He said much focus was given to their neighbors Kisii with the state ignoring or treating Nyamira as a sub county of Kisii county.
“It’s unfortunate that the national leadership takes Kisii County as the only county in Gusii. We are treated as minors by our neighbors. It is even sarcastic that our governor always goes to Kisii whenever the country boss is around”, he added.
They urged the President to visit the area and address the issue of impassable roads and deteriorating market of tea which is a major cash crop in the area.
“We have so many problems in this county right from impassable road networks to poor tea leaves prizes. We really want to see him around so that we can table the problems”, he said.
President Uhuru has visited Gusii region twice since he was elected in 2013 but he has only focused on Kisii County but only making one stop over at Nyansiongo Township July last year on his way to Kisii School for an anniversary celebration.
