Police in Kebirigo on Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man and impounded fake money worth Sh100,000 in a hotel in Kebirigo.

According to AP commander Douglas Ogechi the man identified as Opande was arrested when he gave fake Sh1,000 notes to the hotel attendant who immediately tipped the police.

Ogechi told the press in his office that administration police officers acting on a tip off from the hotel owner rushed to the place and arrested the man.

He thanked the public who helped the police arrest the suspect since he started running away when he saw the police officers who were dressed in uniform.

“We are suspecting that the fake notes are circulated in various business premises and we are appealing to the public to be vigilant when handling any money,” said the AP boss.

He said that the youth had been dropped in the hotel by a motorbike. He asked M-pesa agents to be keen when carrying out transactions especially at night adding that the fake money had one serial number and the water mark was not clear for all the notes.

He thanked members of the public in their bid to curb crime by embracing good relations with security agents which he said had assisted in bringing down crime in Kebirigo
