Once underrated as 'academic disgrace', Nyakemincha Secondary school became one of three top Sub County Schools among the top 100 schools in the country's 2017 KCSE results.
With an impressive mean of 54.76, the Nyamira based school was ranked 95th countrywide, beating even renowned academic giants in the larger Gusii region.
Kenya National Examination Council records shows that the school finished second among Sub County schools that appeared on top with Elburgon Secondary and Nyabisase also making it.
The name of the school came into public limelight in 2008 when Sam Ongeri was Minister for Education, at the time their neighbours, Nyakemincha Primary finished last in KCPE exams.
Literally, the name Nyakemincha in local Kisii dialect means tail, a metaphor used for bottom or below average performers.
The institution registered 191 students and managed to emerge second behind Nyambaria High School in the entire Nyamira County.
