Nyamiti emphasises the need to have all children of school going age taken to school, saying it is one way in which petty crimes can be stamped out in Kamwangi town.

The commissioner noted that his office is currently involved in various transformative programmes for children and commercial sex workers, saying these groups are helped to engage in different social and economic activities to help them improve their living standards.

Nyamiti said the his office has a passionate mission for children’s education at their social department in Kamwangi citing that he helped eight transformed street children sit for last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and are now in various secondary schools.

He promised to start a programme that will encourage children to go to school and become prominent persons in the society.

"All street urchins need is motivation and continuous encouragement which my office will push. We must remember that these are our children and Kenyans too," he said from his office on Thursday.

He said he would engage local legislators to join him in reducing the surge citing that he is on a mission to reduce the number from estimated 220 to 50 by the end of 2016.
