Speaking during a burial ceremony in the region on Wednesday, area residents accused the police of doing little to curb continuous attacks by an anonymous group, which is said to be executing coordinated attacks.

They asked the OCPD to deploy policemen for routine patrols in the region, since the gang is believed to have taken an advantage of ‘police absence’ to carry out their criminal activities indiscriminately.

According to them, shopkeepers have been the main target since a number of them are said to have lost property worth thousands of shillings from the unprecedented attacks.

“All we need is improved security and the OCPD has a mandate to ensure we are safe. We cannot continue losing our property to people who don’t want to work hard. We want to see suspects arrested and arraigned in court,” said Jared Kibwage.

“As small business people family, we have been targets of these unprecedented attacks and I believe the government can help by deploying security officers in the region to deal decisively with suspects,” added Irene Kemunto.

Kimwele admitted of deteriorating security and promised to deploy six officers for night patrols, besides asking residents to coordinate with the police.

“I have heard their cries and I have assigned six police officers to patrol the region. However, I want to remind them that security is a collective responsibility. We have to fight together,” he said.
