Kisumu County Women representative Rose Nyamunga has called upon the community to show love and support to the elderly, people living with disability and orphans.
Nyamunga said the number of vulnerable groups is growing in the county and the level of discrimination is worrying. She said in most instances, the groups have been abused and neglected by the community.
“I have seen in the society when the old are neglected and nobody tend to come to their help,” she said.
Nyamunga said there is need to change attitudes towards this group and called upon the society to step in and give support.
She noted that growing old is not a crime and reminded the community that it is a stage one must pass if granted more life by God.
Speaking in Kisumu West Sub County on Friday during a forum with the disadvantaged people, Nyamunga announced that there is an organisation from South Korea who will work towards assisting the vulnerable in the county.
She lauded the effort the government is taking to give to the vulnerable group in the county noting that it is not enough and will supplement with donor assistance.
Nyamunga said the project will be rolled out in four sub-counties of Seme, Kisumu West, Nyando and Kisumu East before it is rolled out to cover the entire county.
