Kisumu County women representative is set to embark on serious programmes that will improve food security in the region.
Rose Nyamunga has aligned fish farming, horticulture, poultry and dairy farming as some of the programmes she will be rolling out for the residents of Kisumu few months before the first year if devolution comes to an end.
“I am intending to support people living along rivers with pipes and pumps so that they can engage extensively on vegetable farming to boost food security in the region,” said Nyamunga.
She stated that her poultry project in the county is on course but she will be training more farmers on how to improve on the chicken rearing and providing them with chicks for them to expand their venture.
Nyamunga said she has already established a hatchery where farmers can now acquire fingerlings.
“I am targeting over 1,000 ponds. So far we have only managed to support 58,” said Nyamunga.
When it comes to dairy cattle, she stated that there are plans to cross local with dairy cattle to improve their genes. The Kisumu women representative said she will ensure that there are at least 50 animals in every ward to facilitate this.
She is also into talent nurturing by identifying players and empowering them.
