A total of 46 schools in South Mugirango Constituency in Kisii County on Sunday benefitted from a Sh 27.4 m Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty allocation.
South Mugirango MP Manason Nyamweya, who distributed the cheques at Boikanga ward, appealed to school heads and their respective boards to utilize the funds wisely, saying he would not tolerate any incidences of corruption in their development projects.
“Our development projects including those in the education sector must be shielded from corruption. We have already suffered enough and will not tolerate any incidents of wastage and misuse of taxpayers’ funds,” he told the school administrators.
In a hard-hitting statement, the MP, who is also vying for the gubernatorial seat in this year’s general elections on a KNC ticket, accused the governor of neglecting his constituency in developing the education sector.
“I always read the governor claiming that he has built ECDE classes in the county yet my constituency does not have them. Where did he take the money meant for their construction?” wondered the legislator.
Nyamweya alleged the incumbent governor was insensitive to the plight of children attending public primary schools.
“Our governor is yet to release the fund for the construction of kindergarten and nursery schools. That is a sign that he does not care about the welfare or future of our children," Nyamweya said.
Kisii County Government Communication Director Maseme Machuka however rubbished the aspirant’s accusations, saying they were misplaced and driven by malice.
“The county government was allocated money to construct 2 classes in each of the 45 wards in the county. South Mugirango has six wards and we have duly built the 12 classrooms in the constituency, among the 90 that we have done in the entire county,” said Mr Machuka.
