Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has urged farmers to abandon traditional farming methods and embrace new technology in order to increase yields.
According to Nyangarama, the persistent food shortages witnessed in the county is as a result of outdated farming methods used by a majority of farmers.
He made the plea on Wednesday in Ekerenyo ward during the distribution of subsidised farm inputs worth Sh47 million.
Nyagarama said that the county government was targeting 10, 000 families with the subsidised inputs specially made for the Nyamira soils by Israeli government through Amiran Kenya Limited.
He warned the beneficiaries against misusing the materials.
"This seeds and fertilizer we are giving you today should not be sold or used outside the purposes, you should instead share with your neighbours rather than misusing them," said Nyagarama.
He expressed confidence that courtesy of the new inputs farm produce will rise.
