Nearly 55,000 people from across Nyanza are yet to collect their identification cards, the regional registration office has said.
George Olela said the holders of the IDs have failed to collect them despite spirited calls by the agency and the political class to have them collected.
Olela said the situation is likely to have an impact on the activities of other organs of the government including the ongoing voter registration exercise.
"We are having several identification cards and we have tried to contact their owners to come for them but so far very few have responded," said Olela.
In the list, Kisumu County is leading in the number of uncollected identification cards with 16,230 with Kisumu East constituency having 11,248 uncollected cards.
Kisii County is second in the list with a total of 13,778 uncollected IDs while Siaya County has a total of 11,272.
Olela noted that his office is also having 5,358 uncollected IDs in Homa Bay County, 4,529 in Migori and another 3,789 in Nyamira.
Politicians have put up spirited calls on eligible voters to come out and register as voters, hence the increase in those going to pick the documents.
