Internally Displaced People (IDP's) in Nyanza have threatened to boycott the 2017 poll if the government does not compensate them.
According to the IDP's who were displaced in the aftermath of the contentious 2007 presidential election, the government has neglected them for long and that they will not take part in the next year's election if nothing is done.
The Nyanza region IDPs network chairman Nelson Owegi says that Luo Nyanza has 12,500 while Nyamira and Kisii have 29,00 IDPs.
Owegi said that the government has since not helped them but instead, only IDPs from other regions have been compensated.
"We held a meeting with the sub-county IDPs officials within the region and we resolved that we will not vote if we are not compensated," Owegi told the Star.
The government said that they were to finish with the IDPs from the camps, which they did. Now we are wondering what is going on because it is one year down the line and still waiting for compensation for Integrated IDPs.
Kisumu county coordinator Morin Opondo said that the money to compensate the IDPs was released but it has not reached the targeted people due to bad politics in the region.
Opondo warned that the leaders from the region should forget about votes from the IDPs if they are not ready to fight for them.
