Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nyanza have been warned to be cautious over some conmen moving around collecting their signatures.
IDP Nyanza Region Network Chairman Nelson Owegi said they have received reports from their members that some people are seeking their signatures in return of some favours.
Owegi added saying that they are not aware of such exercise, saying that if there would be any then there are clear laid down procedures to be followed.
Speaking to journalists in Kisumu on Friday, Owegi cautioned IDPs in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira and Homabay counties to ignore such person.
He said the group that is moving around is asking for members IDs and asking them to fill some forms.
Owegi said they are exploring ways of reporting the matter to the police so that such individuals are arrested and prosecuted.
“We intend to inform the authorities over this issue so that most of our members do not fall in this trap,” said Owegi.
He further added that they are suspecting the people moving around may be well connected, adding that the list may be subject of discussion at the upcoming UN general assembly meeting.
Chairlady of Women IDPs in Nyanza Maureen Opondo also urged the government to compensate IDPs who were integrated back in the community after the violence.
Opondo accused the government of selective compensation of those who were affected in the 2007/8 post-election violence.
