Omukata has now called upon the cyclists to exercise caution in the roads, especially this festive season to avoid such deaths.

Omukata said for the past one week, over 12 people in Kisumu County have lost their lives as a result of such accidents.

He added that they are also alarmed at the number of those who are engaging in motorcycling with no relevant documents like a license or insurance.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, in Kisumu, Omukata said some parents are also engaging their children, who are still underage in the business of carrying pillions using motorcycles.

Omukata has now sounded a warning to the cyclists, adding that they will conduct a major operation to ensure traffic rules are adhered to.

“We are going to carry out a serious crackdown and arrest anyone who will have been found to be flouting the traffic rules,” said Omukata.

He further added that they want to ensure that the numbers of such deaths are reduced, especially during this festive season, further warning them to avoid overspending and also carrying excess passengers.
