A Nyamira MCA believes that the rise of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho could bring further divisions in the Orange party especially from the Nyanza region due to the perceived Raila Odinga succession, and urged the opposition leader to act ‘swiftly’ and put things in order.
This comes moments after Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo was roasted in various social media platforms for allegedly dismissing the rise of Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed in the ODM, purporting that the party had its owners.
And now Bogichora MCA Beuttah Omanga who is also a close confident of Raila now wants the party leader to tame MPs from Luo-Nyanza to avoid further divisions ahead of the 2017 polls.
“If the remarks I saw on social media allegedly originating from Midiwo are true, then I think Joho’s steady rise is causing jitters among MPs from Raila’s backyard and this is not healthy because we are heading to a crucial election,” he said.
“The party leader should move swiftly and put things in order before they get out of control. Joho is very important in our camp and we don’t want to lose leaders carelessly out of selfish interests from people who want to bring discomfort to the party,” he said.
Omanga also urged MPs from Luo-Nyanza to focus on ensuring Raila wins the presidency instead of engaging in ‘petty’ succession politics.
“Raila hasn’t said he will retire and our main focus should be taking him to State House. They should avoid petty succession politics and support great things Joho is doing for the party. He is only concerned about Raila winning and not succeeding him,” he said.
