Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator Willy Lugusa has assured Journalists attacked in the Kisii incident that they will be protected.

Speaking on Friday morning in his Kisumu office, Lugusa said that anybody performing any form of violence against Journalists is an enemy of progress this country is trying to make.

On Thursday two Journalist were attacked and sustained injuries during a riot at the scene of an accident which claimed at least two lives of Gusii Institute of Technology members.

“I am aware of a report made on Thursday at  Kisii Central Police Station that a Journalist was injured while carrying out his duty by an officer on Thursday evening. Kisii County Commandant is under assignment to ensure a thorough investigation into that matter is carried out and to bring to light what actually transpired," said Lugusa adding that Police arrested a driver whose suspected vehicle lost control before causing the fatal accident.

"Traffic Police officers together with the National Traffic Roads Safety Authority arrested the driver of the truck which was ferrying electricity poles before the accident occurred near Gusii Institute,” said Lugusa.

He added, “Unfortunately when it got to the location of the accident just next to Gusii Institute of Technology it developed malfunctions with breaking system, making it veering off the road and hitting two ladies who died on the spot."

Business came to a stand still after students took their anger to the main Kisii-Keroka road making the ever busy road impassably between Thursday evening and Friday.

Lugusa said that the driver of the vehicle escaped leaving the traffic officer who was in the arrested driver’s company escorting the vehicle to Kisii Central Police Station.

"The matter is under investigation to find out what exactly happened and transpired in the whole incident before and after the accident,l” said Lugusa.
