Speaking to Journalists in Kisumu on Saturday, Akali Foundation founder James Akali said children from poor families normally find it hard to fulfil their academic ambitions, due to lack of support.

He said scholars in the region should join hands towards a strong society, by empowering students.

“Actually this area being along the lake is causing a lot of challenges because of fishing activities going on. Mostly when students drop out of school, the only venture they will have to pursue is fishing,” Akali said.

Akali said orphans are the highly disadvantaged when it comes to lack of support from other members of the community.

Akali Foundation is a community-based initiative that offers a lending hand to learners faced with lack of school fees.

The foundation is based in Homa Bay County, but operates in most parts of Nyanza region.

It works with community members at all levels to ensure that all children supposed to be in school are in school by being supported financially.
