Nyanza and Western regions will contribute very much to determining who will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta. These regions have the capacity of widening the range between the first candidate and the second.
Analytically, the Western region has the second largest number of voters after Central. Nyanza, as well, it is not behind since it is comprised of more than two communities - Kisii and Luo being the major ones.
Depending on the decision of Raila Odinga, the Nyanza region is likely missing out on the 2022 presidential candidature. This provides an advantageous phenom for those allied to the veteran ODM party leader. The big deal should be, let the votes not be split. Then, any candidate endorsed by Raila will have a leg up over the other opponents.
On the other hand, the Western region led by mainly the two - the Ford-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula and the ANC leader Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi. Possibly, Musalia can deputize Kalonzo Musyoka or miraculously deputize DP William Ruto. The only way to attract the Western votes is by embracing these top and vocal leaders.
Predictably, the coastal region is going to have their own candidate since many Governors will be terminating their second term as dictated by the 2010 Constitution.
Therefore, if there will be no presidential candidate from these two regions, Nyanza and Western will be the ones to determine who will go to State House come 2022.
