A group of youths drawn from Nyanza under the umbrella Luo Youth Caucus has slammed the Opposition coalition NASA over its calls for economic boycott.
In a press briefing on Wednesday in Nairobi, the group called on the top NASA leadership to rethink the call, warning of economic decline especially in Nyanza region.
Led by the group’s chairman, Roy K’Obwanga, the youths noted that a number of businesses have recorded losses due to the calls by NASA to its supporters to boycott a number of products and services.
“The National Youth Council, in partnership with Uwezo Fund and the Youth Fund, mobilised resources in connection with Safaricom and gave many young people M-Pesa outlets all over the country," he said.
"It is so sad when leaders call for banning of these shops when the same youths are servicing loans acquired to set up the shops, without giving alternatives to the same,” he added.
Key among the products NASA has highlighted for boycott include network service provider Safaricom and Bidco products.
