Nyamira County governor John Nyagarama has been accused of diverting funds meant for water projects in the county between 2013-2017.
The County Water committee chairman Thaddeus Nyabaro said over Sh8 million that the county claim to have spent on water projects in the county was embezzled during governor John Nyagarama’s first term in office.
“The county government does not account for the lost over Sh8 million that was allocated for water projects in Bomwagamo, Nyamaiya, Bokeira, Nyagesima and Nyamira township wards. MCAs should not accept the fake details being given by the County government on how the money was spent because there is not documents supporting the county expenditure,” said Nyabaro.
Nyabaro claimed that the people who embezzled the funds are well known but Nyaragama has kept quiet.
"Nyagarama should stop being too lenient with officers misusing and misappropriating public funds. We want to see corrupt workers in the county sacked, arrested and prosecuted for the lost public funds to be recovered,” added Nyabaro.
He said acute water shortage that was witnessed in the county should be blamed on governor Nyagarama who felled into the tricks of corrupt workers who lied to him that water projects in the region were complete.
