Speaking on Friday at Sameta SDA Secondary School during an education day, Tong’i asked parents and guardians to avoid using excuses that there are no jobs, and said youths can initiate their own projects through knowledge acquired through formal education.

He also challenged students to work hard and avoid disappointing parents, saying that most parents get disappointed when their children perform poorly in national exams.

However, he asked parents to reason together with their children and encourage them even when they have bounced their expectation.

“The main investment a parent can do to their children is investing in their education. There is a very big difference between an educated person and a non-educated one. If our sons and daughters get educated and do not get a job, at least they can use the knowledge they have to prosper in their lives,” challenged the MP.

He also urged leaders from Kisii County to give education first priority, so that the youth can get equipped with the knowledge for self-reliance.

Tong’i challenged the county government to balance in providing resources to the residents so that all areas can get developed.
