Women from Nyaribari Masaba constituency have been urged to join women groups in a bid to access support from both the county government and national government.
Speaking on Tuesday at Kiamokama region in the constituency, area MP Hon. Elijah Moindi said many women in the region were relying on their husbands as bread winners, despite the vast opportunity to empower themselves economically.
He urged area women to form or join groups to access funds such as Women Enterprise fund in a bid to reduce high level of dependency.
“I have come to learn that many of you are not in women groups and that is disastrous. You must join groups to access funds from the Women Enterprise fund and other entities such as CDF. The level of dependency is really worrying me,” he said.
The NARC-Kenya MP said he would help them register by subsidizing the costs, besides promising to release funds from the CDF kitty to support any development proposal from them.
“I am always ready to support the women in the region and that will start by registering the group, and I am ready to subsidize the registration cost. Further, I am ready to support you people if you show some progress,” he added.
Moindi urged area residents to desist from constant politicking, and instead work together with both the county and national government for economic prosperity.
