Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Richard Tong’i on Wednesday launched the war against illicit brew in the Constituency.

Speaking in Kisii town when he held a meeting with all the chiefs from the constituency, Tong’i said that the consumption of such drinks is what has derailed development.

He also called on area residents to join hands with the government in ensuring this act is brought to a stop, noting that they could not win the war on illicit brew alone.

“I want to say that this problem is also in our area and not only in central Kenya. It might have not reached the level of Central Kenya, but still we have the same problems here in Kisii because we have very learned people around but their careers have been destroyed by alcohol consumption,” he said.

The National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) chairman John Mututho, who had accompanied Tong’i as the chief guest for the meeting also called on the chiefs and their assistants not to get loose on the fight against the vice.

Mututho called on residents to join hands with the chiefs and help them in destroying the illicit brews, noting that they will be destryoing poison.

“Any alcohol is poisonous and we cannot allow our children, our brothers and our parents to die of poisoning,” said Mututho.
