On Monday, they threatened to take action if the health officers do not respond in time, arguing that the facility was pausing danger to the health of residents in the region.

According to them, efforts to persuade the owner to relocate the facility to interior parts of his land have been futile since he has been dismissing them as “idlers who should be given some work to do.”

“This facility is a threat to our own health and we appeal to the public health officials to initiate its demolition for the sake of the public. We will do it by ourselves if they hesitate to take a step for the next one week,” said Sammy Makori.

“As villagers, we have done our part since we have tried to convince him (Mr Peter Omara) but he has constantly dismissed us as idlers besides behaving violently,” added Innocent Morara.

However, Mr Peter Omara, the owner of the toilet, defended his stand when he spoke separately, saying the toilet had no effect on the road users since he had not elevated it on a public land.

“Every citizen has a right to own a property. I haven’t used public land to construct the facility hence whatever argument they have is null and void. The toilet will remain till they substantiate its negative effect on the public,” he said.
