According to The Star, Felix Baridi Mbevo of Mutonguni ward and Munyallo Kitheka have objected the decision, arguing that the local residents are yet to be consulted over the right candidate to replace the deceased lawmaker.
The leaders termed the push for Nyenze’s wife to succeed him is like imposing leaders on the people.Speaking during the burial of the late MP, Kauwi MCA Jane Mutua, said that Edith has what it takes to replace her late husband.
His sentiments were reiterated by Kitui governor Charity Ngilu and her Mukueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana.
The duo said that the endorsement should not be anything to go by before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) releases the date for the by-election to conduct in the constituency.
They said that anyone who is interested in the seat needs to be given a chance to reach out to the people for consideration."The seat should be left for anyone who is interested to contest. As elected leaders, we disassociate ourselves from the public statement."Nyenze died on December 6 after suffering from cancer.
