A bodaboda rider has been killed in Othaya after an alleged fight over campaign money.
Police on Monday exhumed from a shallow grave the body of Joseph Githaiga, the rider who had been buried in a hidden farm in Munaine, some kilometres from Othaya town.
According to area residents, the grave was discovered at around 7am.
“Children noticed a pool of blood on the road and alerted us. We followed the (blood) trail to a part of the farm that was freshly dug,” said Patrick Gatheru, a resident.
Upon digging, residents discovered a shoe and rushed to alert police who later dug and exhumed the body.
Police reports showed that he had a stab wound deep in the back of his head.
Detectives are now working on the assumption that the rider was killed by close people over campaign money given to them following a political rally.
However, Othaya OCPD Joseph Mwika did not confirm the exact amount of money in question and said police were questioning other area boda boda riders for more details.
“Young men, especially bodaboda riders, are being used in political campaigns and often they fight over the money,” said the police boss.
