Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua has been impeached.
32 MCAs out of the 46 members voted to send the governor packing during a heated discussion of the motion at the Nyeri County Assembly chambers.
The motion to send Gachagua home was moved by Kiganjo Ward MCA Baragu Mutahi.
Members of the County assembly had spent the entire night at the chambers celebrating in readiness for the motion to impeach the Governor on Friday, September 2.
Police were forced to form a human shield around the chambers during the heated motion to prevent goons from causing chaos.
Gachagua has been accused of gross misconduct and abuse of office by the MCAs.
The decision by the MCAs will now be forwarded to the Senate which will debate the motion whether the Governor should be send home or remain in office.
